Mandya: The ‘Mandya Bandh’ call given by the Raitha Sangha demanding for a fair price for sugarcane, an increase in milk price per litre, and an electricity bill waiver, turned out to be a success as several shops and markets in the city were closed.
Shops at Dr. B R Ambedkar Road, V V Road, Vinobha Road, and several other areas were closed in support of the bandh call.
The protesters blocked the Mysuru-Mandya-Bengaluru highway, leading to disruption in vehicular movement.
Due to the disruption in KSRTC bus services, the functioning of schools and colleges was affected.
It is learned that the college students also extended support to the protest.
However, the government institutions were functioning as usual.
In the wake of the protest, the cinema halls were also closed.
Meanwhile, security has been tightened across the district.
