Mandya: A woman in Mandya was murderously attacked by a jilted lover in broad daylight in full public view on Thursday evening. The attack took place on the campus of Mandya Institute of Medical Sciences (MIMS) where the victim woman was a para-medical student.
The accused, identified as Sampath, was in love with his relative Navya. However, Navya had refused his advances. As he was uneducated and unemployed her family had also refused to get him married to Navya.
Despite this, Sampath used to stalk the girl and pestered her, and tied to force her into loving him. Fed up with his behavior, Navya’s family reportedly warned him of dire consequences if he continued to pester her.
Sources said, on Thursday morning Sampath waylaid Navya when she was on her way to the college for writing an examination and pestered her about “loving him.” He also gave her time till the evening to accept his love proposal.
He again waylaid her when she was returning home from college and asked for an answer. Navya reportedly scolded her for pestering when he suddenly attacked her with a sharp object and injured her. On hearing Navya’s cries for help, her classmates intervened and rescued her from Sampath. Thereafter, Sampath was thrashed and handed over to the police.
Navya, who received serious injuries, was rushed to the hospital and is receiving treatment at the special ward.
Sampath, meanwhile, is in police custody. Mandya East police have registered a case and have taken up the investigation.
