Mandya: More than 70 devotees fall sick after consuming temple prasadam

Mandya: More than 70 devotees, including children, fell ill who consumed the prasadam of the Marmamma temple at Halaguru in Lingapattana village in Malavalli taluk here on Tuesday, October 27.

Every Tuesday, special poojas are performed in the temple in the evening and prasadam distributed. On October 27 too the pooja was performed and pongal and puliyogare as prasadam were distributed.

About 100 people consumed the prasadam, however, shortly after eating, 70 people became ill with vomiting and diarrhoea. They were immediately taken to a government school premises nearby and administered first aid.

Seven severely ill people were taken to Lingapattana’s Primary Health Centre. Ten others were treated at Halaguru’s Primary Health Centre.

Taluk Health Officer Dr Veerabhadrappa informed that all those who fell ill are presently in good health.
