Two lorries collided in front of the Sri Dwara Hotel at Baikampady on Sunday morning. One of the drivers sustained serious injuries in the incident.
The fish-laden lorry, moving from Mangaluru to Malpe, also rammed into a granite shop and was totally damaged in the mishap. The granite slabs stored at the shop too were damaged due to the impact.
The injured driver has been admitted to a hospital.
It is gathered that fisherwomen selling fish usually sit at the spot where the accident took place. None were present at the time of the mishap thus averting a major disaster.
Locals said several accidents have taken place at the same spot. Also, there is no service road at the stretch, which further worsens the situation, they added.
