Mangaluru: The 1,800 years old Gujjarakere lake along with three other lakes in the city have been revived.
The three lakes which also have been revived include Bajal, Kudroli and Jeppinamogaru.
Gujjarakere lake’s revival was significant as it has a long history attached to it.
“Given its historical importance, Gujjarakere’s revival was of utmost need. The lake had become a dumping ground. All the accumulated trash, weeds and silt was cleared. New steel railings and a jogging and walking track were built around it. But most of all we want the revival of the age-old traditions of deities on procession being brought to the lake for a holy dip,” said MLA Vedavyas Kamath.
