Kundapur: A central team would be deputed to check national highway works being undertaken between Mangaluru and Goa border, said Union minister for road transport and highways Nitin Gadkari on February 5th.
The assurance came after the state minister for panchayat raj, R V Deshpande met with the union minister and held discussions on the issue at New Delhi on Monday. Deshpande urged Gadkari to see that the highway work gains momentum. The central team being deputed now will have many officials including the minister’s private secretary, Vaibhav Dange.
The public can inform the team about the problems faced due to the construction of the highway, informed Deshpande.
“There is a need to complete the works by duly taking care of the safety aspect. But a look at the work completed so far gives an indication that safety aspect has not been given the importance it deserves. At many places, additional flyovers and service roads have to be built. Service road works have not been properly executed. In many places, roads have been elevated, making it difficult for small children to cross the roads. In certain cases, restrictions on not entering the highway have created trouble for the local vehicle users. I have requested the concerned to keep these things in mind and add additional works as requested by the people,” said Deshpande.
