Mangaluru: Artistic grandeur ‘Kala Parba’ at Kadri Park

Unique Art Forms on Display

Mangaluru: The two-day Kala Parba, jointly organized by Sharadhi Pratishthana, Dakshina Kannada District Administration, and Zilla Panchayat, commenced on Saturday at Kadri Park. The art exhibits, showcased along Kadri Park Road, are captivating art enthusiasts. The event features 118 stalls, presenting a diverse range of artistic expressions.

Innovative Art Exhibits

Oil paintings, pencil art, acrylic works, line art, ceramic art, portraits, and nature paintings have drawn significant attention. Homemakers have displayed handcrafted decorative items prepared at home. Notably, creations by a homemaker from Kuloor have stood out. Several women have set up stalls featuring intricately embroidered items.

Art Preserves Culture: MLA Kamath

Speaking at the inaugural ceremony, MLA D. Vedavyas Kamath emphasized that art has the unique power to narrate historical narratives and serves as a platform to remember the contributions of elders in preserving culture.

Prominent personalities present at the event included KPCC General Secretary Padmaraj R. Poojary, Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan, CEO Dr. Anand, District SP Yathish N., Corporator Shakeela Kava, entrepreneur Lanchulal K.S., and notable figures like Koti Prasad Alva, B.P. Mohan Kumar, D. Ramesh Nayak, Puneeth Shetty, Dinesh Holla, and Mohan.

Highlights of Kala Parba

  • C E Kamath Institute for Artisans students displayed sculptures crafted from wood, metal, and stone.
  • Artist Prashanth Acharya presented intricate micro-artwork made from pencil lead.
  • Roopa from Padubidri created diverse art forms using leaves.
  • Padma Karkera from Chitrapura showcased artworks using seashells.
  • Jane Noronha from Bejai exhibited coffee-powder-based artworks.

Paper Collage Awareness Campaign

Students of Srinivas College used old newspapers to create replicas, raising awareness about the dangers posed to animals consuming discarded plastic items in public spaces.

Tribal Siddhi Community’s Cultural Showcase

The cultural heritage of the Siddhi tribal community from Yellapur-Manchikeri was unveiled through the Siddhi Dhamami dance led by Pannik Siddhi, captivating the audience. The event also included a painting competition for students. Musical performances by Ankush Nayak’s team from the Expert group and various dance performances by cultural troupes added to the vibrancy
