Mangaluru: Assaulted by gang, youth dies in hospital; accused held

Sullia: A youth who was brutally assaulted by eight persons on July 19 night succumbed to his injuries at the hospital where he was undergoing treatment.
The victim Masood, 18, a native of Kasargod was residing at his grandfather’s house at Kalanja, Sullia for nearly a month now.
On July 19, when Masood was going to attend a function he accidentally bumped into one of the accused which led to an altercation.
Later, under the pretext of resolving the matter, the accused contacted Masood’s acquaintance named Ibrahim Shanif and asked them to meet at Vishnunagara. However, when the duo went there, the gang assaulted Masood.
Both Masood and Ibrahim fled from the spot. Later when Ibrahim searched for Masood he was found in an unconscious state near the well belonging to one Aboobakar. He was admitted to a hospital in Mangaluru but he died without responding to the treatment.
Meanwhile the accused identified as Sunil, Sudhir, Shiva, Sadhashiv, Ranjith, Abhilash, Gym Ranjith and Bhaskar have been arrested by the police.
