Mangaluru: Beedi workers federation urge govt for financial assistance

Mangaluru: The South Canara Beedi Workers’ Federation has requested the state government to announce minimum financial assistance to the beedi workers.
The federation leaders said that the state government and beedi workers’ welfare board has not provided any financial assistance and requested the government to release a minimum of Rs. 6,000 to the workers.
Activist Vasanth Achari said that they will launch an agitation if the government fails to release the financial package. The beedi workers in the district would launch a card campaign. A demonstration by the beedi unions will be held on June 10.
