Mangaluru: The Bharat Jodo Yatra led by Rahul Gandhi has empowered the Congress party to face the 2029 elections with renewed hope, said Tiruvallur MP Sasikanth Senthil.

Speaking at an event organized by the District Congress Committee, Mangaluru City, and South Block Congress Committee on Tuesday, Senthil emphasized that only the Congress can protect the Constitution. He called for systematic strengthening of the party from the grassroots level, beginning with the district.

Senthil highlighted that efforts would be made to ensure that the voices of workers reach party leaders. Priority would be given to engaging with members below the block level. He stressed the importance of closing the gap between workers and leaders and committed to working on organizational matters.

Former ministers B. Ramanath Rai, Abhayachandra Jain, MLA Ashok Kumar Rai, former MLA Shakuntala Shetty, and other leaders such as Padmaraj R., Kanachur Monu, Rakshit Shivaram, City Block President Prakash Salyan, and South Block President Abdul Saleem were present. Former MLA J.R. Lobo welcomed the gathering, and Rohit Ullal hosted the event.

Shocked by Modi’s Election

Senthil shared his personal political journey, recalling how he closely observed politics since 2002. He expressed shock and fear when Narendra Modi, whom he linked to the Godhra riots, became Prime Minister in 2014 and was re-elected in 2019. Senthil said he felt the need to stop this political direction, which led him to resign from his administrative role and join the Congress, where he was entrusted with significant responsibilities.

Senthil mentioned that during the Lok Sabha election, he had only 15 days to campaign but was overwhelmingly supported by the people, leading to a resounding victory.
