Mangaluru: A major accident was averted on Thursday morning when a Vishal Travels bus en route from Udupi to Mangaluru experienced a brake failure near Ballalbagh in the city. The driver, Siddiq Yermal’s presence of mind ensured the safety of the passengers and others.

The incident occurred around 8 AM when the bus, which had dropped off passengers at the Lalbagh junction, moved towards the Ballalbagh stop.

The driver realized the brakes had failed and quickly steered the bus towards the left side of the road. Although the pavement was elevated, the bus mounted it but halted as the rear wheels couldn’t climb further.

Due to the morning rush, the bus was carrying a significant number of passengers. Thanks to the driver’s quick thinking, no injuries or accidents were reported. Traffic police later visited the site and conducted an inspection.
