Mangaluru: CCB police arrest 3 persons with ambergris worth Rs 1.57 crores

Mangaluru: CCB police apprehended three individuals on Saturday while attempting to sell whale vomit, commonly known as amber grease (ambergris).

CCB police said that a raid was conducted near a hospital close to Pumpwell in the city, based on a tip-off that 4 persons in a car were illegally carrying ambergris. Three persons have been arrested, police added.

The arrested accused have been identified as Pyarejan alias Shetu (37), a native of Chikkamangaluru residing at Mangalipadavu, Vitla, Badruddin (28), also from Mangalipadavu, Vitla, and Rajesh R (22) from Nagapattinam, Tamil Nadu.

Whale vomit weighing 1.575 kg with a market value of Rs. 1.57 crores was confiscated from them. Police also seized the car and mobile phones valued at Rs. 5 lakh. The total worth of the seized items is estimated to be Rs. 1.62 crores.
