Mangaluru: CCB Police have apprehended another member of a notorious drug-peddling gang involved in the illicit sale of MDMA across the city. The arrest comes in the wake of an earlier operation that led to the detention of three individuals on July 20, in possession of a substantial amount of the narcotic substance.
The initial arrests took place in Pilikuri, Talapadi village, under the jurisdiction of Ullal police station. The suspects were caught with 180 grams of MDMA, two Maruti Swift cars, a pistol, a dragon knife, and a considerable sum of cash.
Following the successful apprehension of the first group, the police continued their pursuit of other suspects associated with the drug ring. Acting on a well-timed tip-off, the CCB conducted a raid on Wednesday and successfully arrested Abdul Uwais (29).
The suspect was found to be in possession of 8 grams of MDMA, with an estimated street value of Rs. 40,000/-. Additionally, the police seized one mobile phone, Rs. 1020/- in cash, a digital weighing scale, and other items with a total value of Rs. 81,520/-.
Abdul Uwais, the accused, was produced before the court, and he was remanded in judicial custody, police said.
According to police, Uwais had been previously implicated in multiple criminal cases. Among the charges filed against him are assault, kidnapping, sale and consumption of drugs in the jurisdiction of the Mangaluru North Police Station. Additionally, there is an IT Act case registered against him at the Udupi District CEN Police Station.
Police said the accused had previously absconded in two cases, avoiding appearances in court, and currently, there are two active warrants against him.
