Mangaluru: CCB police arrest MDMA peddler

In a significant stride towards achieving a “Drugs Free Mangaluru,” the Mangaluru Central Crime Branch (CCB) Police apprehended an individual for distributing MDMA (Methylene dioxy methamphetamine) in various parts of the city, particularly targeting students.

The arrested accused has been identified as Abdul Sawaj alias Chawwa (30), a native of Mukkachery, Ullal, and currently residing near Mastikatte Junction, Ullal.

The CCB said the arrest was made during a raid based on a tip-off indicating that a person was in possession of the illegal substance, MDMA, while riding a two-wheeler in the Ullal Ombattu Kere area of Mangalore.

Police said they seized approximately 25 grams of MDMA, valued at Rs. 1.25 lakhs. In addition to the contraband, a Honda Activa scooter, one mobile phone, Rs. 2,120/- in cash, and a digital weighing scale were confiscated, with a total estimated worth of Rs. 2,17,000/-.

Abdul Sawaj has been taken into custody and a case has been registered against him at the Ullal Police Station. The investigation has revealed that several others may be involved in this illicit drug trade, police said.

This successful operation was carried out by the dedicated officers and personnel of the CCB unit, under the vigilant guidance of  Anupam Agarwal, the Mangaluru City Commissioner of Police.
