Mangaluru: CCB police nab man for smuggling ganja

A 35-year-old man was arrested for trafficking Ganja, Mangaluru CCB police said on March 27.
The accused has been identified as Nishanth Shetty, a resident of Neermarga Junction. Police said he was nabbed during a raid at a location in Ullal based on credible information on March 27.
According to police, the accused was transporting a sizable quantity of ganja on a tempo. The contraband had been procured from Visakhapatnam in Andhra Pradesh and was brought to Mangaluru via train. He intended to distribute it among the public and students in Mangaluru.
Approximately 6.325 kg of ganja worth Rs. 1.5 lakhs, a tempo, two mobile phones, a digital weight scale, and other assets were recovered from the accused. The total value of the seized items amounts to Rs. 9.11 lakhs, police added.
A case has been registered against Shetty at the Ullala Police Station
According to police, Shetty has a history of criminal activities. He was previously implicated in several cases, including assault, possession of an illegal pistol, theft, and prior instances of ganja trafficking. The accused has been booked in 10 cases across various police stations, they added.
