Mangaluru: The Mangaluru City Crime Branch (CCB) police arrested two individuals, including a Nigerian national, for trafficking and selling the banned substance MDMA. The operation also led to the seizure of 200 grams of MDMA valued at Rs 10 lakh, police said on Friday.

According to the police, the arrests were made following information gathered during the recent apprehension of a drug peddler named Iqbal in Bajpe Police Station limits. Acting on the leads, the CCB launched separate operations and apprehended the accused Darshan K.G. (25), A resident of Andrahalli, Bengaluru, and Chika Joseph Eze (26), A Nigerian national residing in Bettahalsoor, Bengaluru.

The police confiscated items worth Rs 18.25 lakh, including 200 grams of MDMA (worth Rs 10 lakh), A Maruti Baleno car, mobile phones, 5 debit cards, 7 SIM cards, and a digital weighing scale. The seized items and the accused have been handed over to the Bajpe Police Station for further action.

Police said the accused were allegedly supplying MDMA to various individuals in Mangaluru for illegal profit. Chika Joseph Eze arrived in India in May 2023 on an employment visa and worked at a hairdressing establishment in Bengaluru. He was previously arrested by Yelahanka New Town Police for drug-related activities and had been released on bail four months ago.

Police suspect more individuals are involved in the drug trafficking network, and efforts are underway to trace them.
