Mangaluru: CEN police arrest cyber fraudster

Mangaluru: The Cyber Economic and Narcotics (CEN) Crime Police Station in Mangaluru City has arrested a cyber fraudster within 48 hours of registering a case.
The accused, identified as Gaurav Makwan (25), a resident of South Delhi, has been taken into custody for duping a Flipkart user by hacking their account and purchasing high-value goods, police said.
A complaint was filed by Yadunandan at the Cyber Crime Police Station. The complainant received a malicious file named VAHAN PARIVAHAN apk on WhatsApp. Upon downloading the file, his Flipkart account was hacked. The fraudsters used his account to purchase two mobile phones, one AirPods, and gift vouchers worth Rs 1,31,000 using his debit and credit cards.
Acting swiftly, the police sought information from Flipkart and identified the accused. PSI Gurappa Kanti and PC Tippa Reddy were deployed on a special mission to Delhi, where they apprehended the accused, Gaurav Makwan, from Panchsheel Vihar, Malviya Nagar, Delhi.
The police seized items worth Rs 4,00,000, including 2 Android phones, 5 iPhone 15 devices, 2 AirPods and the mobile phones used for committing the crime.
Police said the accused was produced before the court, which remanded him to judicial custody.
