Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada District Bus Owners Association president, Dilraj Alva on Friday, October 16 announced that the city buses in Mangaluru will be offering a weekly and monthly bus pass facility known as ‘Chalo Super Saver Plan’ to the commuters from November 1.
Commuters can save up to 75% of their monthly commuting cost by opting to buy the Chalo card that works on near field communication (NFC) technology, making transactions touchless and digital. The cards should be fully functional from November 15.
How to be a member of the scheme:
Those who want to be a member of the scheme will have to furnish photocopies of Aadhar card or PAN card. The cards are available at Dakshina Kannada Bus Owners Association office in Milagres Building Hampankatta, Chalo office in the city tower building opposite State Bank building, at Sagar Tyres opposite Mandovi Motors on Balmatta road, and also from the bus conductors.
Recharge benefits:
Non-regular travelers too can buy Chalo cards for Rs 20 and recharge with any amount. A Chalo card for Rs 50 provides a wallet balance of Rs 50, a card of Rs 100, a wallet balance of Rs 80. Recharge bonuses will see commuters get wallet balances of Rs 210, Rs 550, and Rs 1,100 for recharge of Rs 200, Rs 500, and Rs 1,000 respectively.
Chalo app:
Chalo app would be introduced soon, from where cards can be acquired. Already about 4,000 Chalo cards have been sold and presently, 90 percent of city buses are functioning. Smartphone users can get the QR code on their Chalo app scanned by the electronic ticket issuing machines (ETIM) issued to conductors. The ETIM will detect the super saver plan and apply it for the trip.
“Chalo card will not also help commuters save up to 75%, it will also help the cities keep pace with Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s dream of Digital India,” said Dilraj Alva addressing a press meet at press club here.
