Mangaluru: Convict sentenced to 3 years imprisonment in POCSO case

Mangaluru: Mangaluru Additional District and Sessions Court, FTSC-II (POCSO Special Court) sentenced a man convicted in a POCSO case.

The convict, Sanjeeva Naika (57) of Uruvalu village in Beltangady taluk was found guilty of molesting a minor girl and was ordered to undergo 3 years imprisonment and a fine of Rs 10,000.

A case was registered against Naika at Uppinangadi police station for sexually assaulting a girl. Police Inspector  Ravi BS completed the investigation and submitted the charge sheet.

After reviewing the evidence, documents, supplementary evidence, and arguments from both sides, District Judge Maanu KS held that the accused was guilty and sentenced him to three years of imprisonment along with a fine of Rs 10,000 under Section 354(A) of the Indian Penal Code and Section 8 of the POCSO Act.

The judge ordered that the fine amount be paid to the affected minor. Additionally, the District Legal Services Authority has been directed to provide an additional compensation of Rs 25,000 to the minor. Special Public Prosecutor K. Badrinath Nayari represented the government in this case.
