Mangaluru: Second District Fast Track Special Court exonerated an accused charged with raping a minor girl and impregnating her.

Satish Anachan, the POCSO case accused, was acquitted by the court.

The prosecution had alleged that Satish of threatening the girl and sexually assaulted her at a secluded location in July 2020. He was accused of issuing death threats to keep the matter a secret.

A POCSO case was filed against Satish after the girl was found to be pregnant. Police had filed a chargesheet naming Satish as the prime accused.

The girl underwent an abortion and a DNA test of the fetus revealed Satish to be the father.

However, after listening to the arguments by the prosecution as well as the defense, the court held that the prosecution failed to prove that the girl was below the age of 16 years at the time of the crime. The court considered the case to be of “consensual sexual intercourse” and delivered a not-guilty verdict acquitting Satish Anchan.
