Mangaluru: Customs officials thwart gold smuggling attempt; seize gold worth Rs 50 lakhs

Customs officials at Mangaluru International Airport intercepted confiscated smuggled gold worth Rs Rs. 50,93,750 from passengers arriving from Abu Dhabi and Dubai to Mangaluru by Al Express flights on Friday, January 12.
“Based on profiling and extensive surveillance maintained by the officers of Mangaluru Customs, two pax arriving from Abu Dhabi and Dubai to Mangaluru by Al Express flights IX816 and IX814 were intercepted.4. As a result of frisking the pax, scanning and open examination of checked-in baggage and detailed interrogation of the pax, gold of 24 carat weighing 815 grams (net) valued @ Rs. 50,93,750/-was recovered from them. The gold objects in the two cases were concealed by the pax in the rectum in the form of three oval-shaped objects containing gold in paste form and the form of gold paste concealed inside chocolate boxes in the checked-in baggage,” the Customs Mangaluru tweeted.
