Mangaluru: The ‘Mangaluru Dasara’ festivities began at the Kudroli Sri Gokarnanatha Temple on Thursday.
The events began with the rituals of Guru Prarthana and the installation of Navadurga and Sharada idols at 9 a.m. in the temple premises.
Dignitaries including Dakshina Kannada MP Nalin Kumar Kateel and MLA Vedvyas Kamath and hundreds of devotees were present for the rituals.
The 10-day celebrations this year will be held from October 7 till October 16 under the able guidance of former union minister B. Janardhana Poojary. The slogan for this year “Namma Dasara – Namma Surakshe (Our Dasara – Our Safety)” reminds the faithful to observe covid appropriate behaviors during the festivities.
The Mangaluru City Corporation has decked up for the festivities with attractive lighting displayed along 6km roads around the temple including Kudroli, Mannagudda, Ladyhill Circle, Lalbagh junction, PVS, Navbharat Junction, Hampankatta, Mohini Vilas, Car Street, and New Chitra Talkies areas.
Similarly, special lighting arrangements have been made in areas surrounding Mangaladevi Temple in the city for Dasara celebrations. Some public, as well as private buildings, have been illuminated.
