Mangaluru: DC orders mandatory GPS on vehicles hauling sand

Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr KV Rajendra has ordered all boats and vehicles involved in the dredging and movement of sand in the district must install GPS system in them.
80 licenses have been issued for the dredging of 13 sand blocks in the district’s coast.
The DC further said that the GPS system must be installed from the agencies listed by the Karnataka State Electronics Development Corporation Limited and after post-installation documents must be submitted to the Director of Mines and Geology at Mallikatte here.
“All owners of vehicles moving sand must install and register their vehicles in the ‘Sand Bazar’ app,” the DC added.
The Sand Bazar app was launched by the Deputy Commissioner on Friday, November 20 for sand traders and for sand procurement by the general public.
