Mangaluru: DC orders officials to strictly enforce single-use plastic ban

Mangaluru: Deputy Commissioner (DC) Dr. K V Rajendra on Monday instructed the concerned officials to strictly implement the ban on single-use plastic in the district.

Speaking at a meeting held at the DC’s office, Rajendra said, “Plastic waste handling rules of 2016 state that plastic items such as forks, spoons, ice cream sticks, flags, plates, cigarette packets, cups should not be produced, imported, stocked, distributed, sold and used. These rules have been implemented from July 1.”

“Officials must make sure that regular awareness programs are held in and around the district. Strict action must be taken against the violators,” he added.

MLAs Vedavyas Kamath, Dr Bharath Shetty, Mayor Premanand Shetty, Zilla panchayat CEO Dr Kumar, Mangaluru City Corporation commissioner Akshay Sridhar, Environment department officer Kirthi Kumar and others were present.
