Mangaluru: Demand for water tankers
Team Udayavani, May 17, 2019, 8:40 AM IST
Mangaluru: Water is being supplied throughout the city since Thursday morning as per the revised water rationing rule. The water will be supplied till 6 am on May 20th. If in case no rain is received by May 20th, then it has been decided to provide water for 4 days and stop the supply for 4 days.
The water level at Thumbay dam as of Thursday evening stood at 3.77mt. The lack of water at most houses in the city has carried on. In the backdrop of the worsening problem of water shortage, the demand for water tankers has increased. But the tankers too do not have enough supply for the demand.
Since the water rationing rule came into effect, people of some areas were compelled to depend on water tankers since the water supply failed to reach them. The water in the well at Kadri Kambla is the only source of water for the private water tankers. But now, the well here too is showing depletion in water level. The corporation has mad facilities to provide water through water tankers at some places. Puck-up and 407 vehicles are being used to supply water to areas which cannot be accessed by water tankers.
Free supply
‘Team Garodi’ organization has taken an initiative to provide free water to houses facing water shortage. Due to acute water scarcity in the city, some hotels are now giving food and drinks in paper plates and plastic cups respectively. The corporation’s Mangala swimming pool too is facing water shortage and there is fear if water will be supplied here. Previously, the swimming pool had to be shut down for a similar reason.
Special pooja
Special poojas were conducted under the leadership of MLA Kamath at various temples in the city or the sooner arrival of the monsoon.
