PTI, Apr 2, 2023, 2:39 PM IST
A search operation was conducted on Sunday, April 2 by a large number of police officers at the district jail here. The inspection lasted for about an hour and a half.
Commissioner of Police Kuldeep Kumar R. Jain informed that only beedi, cigarettes, and tobacco were found during the search operation.
Addressing the media after the inspection, Commissioner Jain stated that the search was a routine procedure and involved approximately 300 policemen. He confirmed that no drugs or mobile phones were found during the search. However, he added that the prison authorities were constantly vigilant to prevent the trafficking of ganja and other prohibited substances in the prison.
Jain also spoke to the prison superintendent about the matter and ensured that measures would be taken to prevent any illegal activities inside the prison. He further stated that the police had checked whether any under-trial prisoners were making unauthorized mobile calls, but no such activity was detected.
The inspection of the district jail comes amid concerns about the increasing smuggling of drugs and other illegal substances into prisons across the country.
The authorities have been taking stringent measures to prevent such activities and ensure the safety and security of both inmates and prison staff.
