Mangaluru: The people of Dakshina Kannada district have been cautioned by the regional office of the Karnataka State Pollution Control Board against the burning of firecrackers during Diwali on the interior roads.

As per the reports in the Times of India, the pollution board has said the usage of firecrackers on interior roads creates a nuisance to the residents and might lead to fire incidents. Hence it has requested people to avoid burning firecrackers in such areas, instead bursting them in open grounds.

In its press release, the board has completely banned the usage of firecrackers from 10 PM to 6 AM.

The ban is imposed in the interest of public health and pollution, read the press release.

Crackers making loud noise should be avoided in silent zones like hospitals, prayer centres, schools, etc.

The notification on the ban on firecrackers making loud noise and usage of only green firecrackers is issued as per the directions of the Apex Court directives of 2005.

Meanwhile, the board has suggested people to light up lamps on Diwali instead of burning firecrackers.
