Mangaluru drug menace: 26 booked in one month for ganja consumption

A significant rise in drug addiction among adolescents in Mangaluru has proven to be a major cause of concern for Dakshina Kannada police officials.
Around 26 persons aged 20-30 have been booked for ganja consumption from January 22, 2022, to February 20, 2022, in the city.
The accused were arrested from areas under Konaje, Ullal and Mangalore city police station limits.
It is learnt that ganja is the most easily accessible to youngsters who indulge in anti-social activities under the influence of drugs.
During interrogation, the accused have revealed that most of the nicotine addicts consume ganja as many petty shops sell drugs in the city.
Police officials have also found that more than half of the drugs are being smuggled from Kerala. Recently, two cases of drug peddling have been registered.
On February 15, cops arrested three persons in Urumane, Manjanadi village and seized 1.340 kg of drugs from the accused.Also, on February 16, 2.220 kg of drugs were seized by the police officials in Kunjathur and two persons were arrested.
