Mangaluru: Muslims in the city celebrated Eid al-Fitr in a subdued mood for a second year on Thursday, May 13 as the COVID-19 pandemic again forced mosque closings and family separations on the holiday marking the end of Islam’s holiest month of Ramzan.
Due to Covid, celebrations are minimal in the city, and most people are getting ready for low-key celebrations at home. From preparing a feast with available ingredients to bonding with family.
The mosques is the district wore a deserted look as no permission has been given to hold namaz on the occasion of Eid-ul-Fitr because of COVID-19 restrictions.
The Idgah mosque at Light House Hill, Pumpwell mosque, Khude Ali Jumma Masjid etc… which used to witness huge crowds on Eid to offer namaz and to exchange greetings, were devoid of people’s movement.
Meanwhile, the religious leaders have appealed to the devotees to perform the special prayers and celebrate Eid in a very simple way at thier homes.
Eid-ul-Fitr is considered one of the most auspicious festivals for the Muslim community.
Muslims all across the globe come together to celebrate it with abandon. It also masks the end of the Islamic holy month of fasting or Ramadan. The festival falls on the first day of the month of Shawwal, and no fast is observed on that day.
