Mangaluru: Police officials have registered a case against an advocate for fraudulently withdrawing deceased youth’s Rs 15 lakh insurance money.

In January 2019, a youth named Sharan from Bajpe met with a fatal accident at Peenya Bengaluru. After his death, the family of the deceased had to receive Rs 15 lakh insurance money and their relative Padmanabha, an advocate, came forward to help them.

The family waited for several months but they did not receive the insurance money. Later, Toyota company Bengaluru where Sharan worked, disbursed Rs 35 lakh  as compensation.

A few days later, Padmanabha called Sharan’s family and asked them to come to his office. He got their signatures for various applications and blank sheets. Sharan’s father noticed an HDFC Bank cheque too.

Within a few weeks, Sharan’s widow got information on mobile about Rs 15 lakh having been disbursed and withdrawn.

The family grew suspicious and approached another lawyer. There they came to know that they have been cheated and filed a police complaint against Padmanabha.

Cases under various sections of the Indian Penal code have been registered against the advocate but he is still absconding.
