Panambur: A girl from Belagavi was found strangled to death at a rented house near the Bhajana Mandir at Jokatte junction here on Tuesday morning.

The girl had been visiting her uncle Hanumatha who lives in Jokatte. The girl was home alone as Hanumantha, who works as a laborer, had been to work as usual on Tuesday, his wife had gone to her hometown, and his son, a class 8 student, was at school.

The girl had reportedly come to her uncle’s house only four days ago after receiving treatment for hand pain.

Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal, and Law and Order Department DCP Dinesh Kumar visited the spot and guided the investigation. Panambur sub-division ACP, Panambur police station officials have registered a case and are investigating.

The incident came to light when the victim’s mother called her neighbor on Tuesday to inquire about her daughter.

Police suspect someone known to the girl may have committed the crime. They have apparently ruled out theft being a motive. As the neighbours did not hear any disturbance or scream, it is suspected that someone acquainted with the girl is behind the murder.
