In response to a query raised by Pratapasimha Naik during a recent question and answer session, the Youth Empowerment and Sports Minister, B. Nagendra, revealed that the construction of a dedicated hostel for girls is currently underway. The minister informed that the ground floor and first floor of the sports hall have already been completed, with pending tasks including flooring, plastering, water supply, drainage, and electricity connection.

The project is estimated to cost around Rs. 1.40 crore, with a sum of Rs. 1.5 crore already allocated and released. The minister emphasized the importance of providing suitable accommodation and facilities to female athletes and assured that the government is committed to completing the construction promptly.

Currently, the athletics sports department of the sports hostel in Mangala stadium premises accommodates a total of 47 athletes, consisting of 33 boys and 14 girls. The department offers these talented individuals a range of benefits, including free lodging, meals, scientific sports training, travel allowances for participating in sports events, sports uniforms, access to free medical facilities, and necessary materials for daily use.

The establishment of a separate girls’ hostel aims to address the specific needs of female athletes, ensuring their comfort, safety, and conducive training environment.
