Mangaluru: Unidentified miscreants stole five gold chains from the Shwetambar Moorti Pujak Jain Temple behind Lady Goschen Hospital here during the wee hours of Thursday.
The theft occurred at around 4.30 am when the temple priest and his family were asleep. The temple priest’s wife happened to hear some noise and alerted her husband and son.
When they went to check, they noticed that the temple door latch was broken and thieves were trying to steal from the donation box. However, noticing them they left the box and fled the spot.
As per the complaint five gold chains weighing approximately 55 grams, with an estimated worth of Rs. 2.5 lakh had been stolen from the temple.
A case has been registered at the Mangaluru North Police Station, and an investigation is underway.
