Mangaluru: Heavy rain, lightning wreak havoc in city

Mangaluru: Dakshina Kannada district received pre-monsoon rain on Wednesday that caused severe damage in several parts of the city.
The city faced a power outage following rain accompanied by lightning and thunder. It is said that the tree branches had fallen on electrical wires at many places, and it was hard to locate the fault.
Areas like Bajpe, Kateel, Moodbidri, Surathkal and Mulki experienced cloudy weather in the afternoon and in the evening, they received rainfall.
A palm tree was gutted in a fire as lightning struck the tree in Koluvailu, Haleyangadi. The tree was in front of the house belonging to Malathi. Electronic appliances in her house also have been burnt due to lightning strike.
The India Meteorological Department (IMD) said that there is a possibility that coastal areas may receive rainfall for a few more days.
