Mangaluru: Two supervisors have been remanded in judicial custody in connection with a hillside collapse in Surathkal that killed a laborer.

The accused have been identified as Mohana Vishnu Naik (44) and Nagaraja Narayana Naik (44).

Ramachandra, an Andhra-based contractor, took up the task of constructing a barrier near the railway bridge of Chelyaru village.

He apparently did not take any safety measures and the workers were also seen doing the work without safety gear.

The incident occurred when the rail repair works were underway. A train arrived suddenly and the mud on the hill collapsed and crashed on the workers who were working beneath the bridge.

The injured have been admitted to a nearby hospital.
