Mangaluru International Airport has gone silent! Here’s why?

Press Release, Apr 30, 2024, 2:41 PM IST

Mangaluru: Mangaluru International Airport has gone silent. Yes! The airlines will no longer make announcement for passengers over the public address (PA) system. This important change will ensure that the passengers spend their time at the airport, waiting for the flight, enjoying the peace and tranquility, catching up with their favorite pastime such as a chat with their loved ones, with their reading, binge watching their shows or simply focusing on urgent work.

Instead, the passengers now as in the past, will get all their flight related information, including changes in gate or delays in flight departures or arrival on the Flight Information Display System (FIDS). The airport has placed FIDS at vantage points both inside and outside the airport, which gives updated information on the arrival and departure of flight. There are also large display boards at the departure and arrival areas providing timely and updated information.

In addition, the staff manning the ‘May I Help You’ Desk at the airport terminal, customer service and guest relations executives, Pranaam staff will be on hand to assist passengers with information. One can also view the flight information at all airline check-in counters, the boarding gates. The airline will also share the same on the passenger’s registered email and mobile number via SMS for boarding gate changes/flight re-scheduling, to assist seamless journey experience.

“It is a conscious effort on part of the airport to enhance travel experience for the passengers. The airline partners have extended their fullest co-operation in helping the airport go silent,” the airport spokesperson said. Passengers may also approach the airport terminal manager’s office for flight information or call the respective airlines to get the updated information on their travel plans. Only emergency related information will be shared over the PA system, henceforth.
