Mangaluru: The process of privatization on Mangaluru International Airport (MIA) is gaining pace and its being said that four companies including GMR have shown interest in the taking over the management of the airport.

Kochi International Airport (CIAL) has also expressed interest on the contract for the development and management of MIA and has also participated in the bid. According to reliable sources, along with MIA, 6 other airports in the country have been planned for privatization and the bid for the same was opened on Feb 14th. Till now, altogether 3 private companies have come forward to take the contract for the development and management of MIA. GMR group which has been managing important airports like the Delhi and the Hyderabad airport is now participating in the bidding process for MIA. It is being said that the renowned Adani Enterprises and CIAL also have participated in the bid.

Interest from Kochi airport!

It is curious that Kochi International Airport, which is the biggest international airport of the neighbouring state Kerala has shown interest in getting the contract for the development and management of MIA. Kerala already has 4 international airports and recently, as if in competition to MIA, Kannur international airport had started to function. Hence is it interesting the CIAL has participated in the bidding process. Sources have informed that of the bidders, the eligible for the contract for the development and management of MIA will be known on Feb 26th.
