Mangaluru: The torrential rains on Tuesday inundated Mangaluru and also attracted a rain of complaints on Twitter. The netizens of Mangaluru gave voice to their plight on the state of disorder the city is in.

MangaluruRains#, MangaluruFloods# was the hashtag trend on Twitter and many users took the district administration to task. They said that incessant rains has shown the lack of basic facilities in Mangaluru. They questioned why the district administration was a sitting quietly even though they knew that Mangaluru receives heavy rains. Who is responsible for the present situation? They vehemently questioned.

People have voiced their concern the unfinished highway work, unfinished flyover, lack of drainage, lack in preparation for monsoon, non-functioning of emergency work, illegal construction of buildings on areas mean for drainage and many more. Many users compared Mangaluru flood with the major flooding that happened last time in Mumbai and pointed out that the district administration had failed to learn from that incident. They also asked to question the representatives of the people on what steps had the district administration taken in preparation for the monsoon.

“Every year this is the story everywhere. Today Mangaluru tomorrow Mumbai. Nobody has learnt the lesson. Nobody will learn,” tweeted a user Mitraji Bhattacharya.

“When it rains heavily, illegal buildings are remembered. On other days they forget,” questioned the tweet by Rajiv Nagar.

“Dear Mangaluru, you have qualified to drown. Everywhere concrete roads have been created without drains due to which there is no place for the water to go. Managluru’s smartness has drowned in the flood,” was a tweet by Harsha Bhat

“The rain shows the condition of Mangaluru’s drains. At least today, a few have raised their voice on substandard work,” tweeted Nitin.
