Mangaluru: Kambala buffalo ‘Dooje’, owned by brothers Kanadka Dolphy D’Souza and Derrick D’Souza, has fallen ill with its owners suspecting some kind of sorcery behind this.

Dooje is popular in the Kambala sport. It has won 68 medals in 10 years, said Dooje’s owner Dolphy.

The pair of ‘Dooje’ and ‘Hermunde’ had made it to the semi-finals at Kakyapadavu in this year’s Kambala event. The buffalo duo secured first place at Adve, and second place at Venoor and Hokkadigoli.

During the Aikala Kambala, both Dooje and Hermunde fell ill. While Hermunde recovered quickly, Duje’s health kept worsening. Presently its health is showing signs of improvement.

Sorcery Suspicions:

Several people would visit to see Dooje every day and a few of them used to offer fruits, etc. The owners never stopped anyone from seeing or offering fruits to the buffalo. However, all of a sudden Dooje fell ill, and recently while cleaning the barn things such as ashes, and tin suspected used for sorcery were found. Also, a Chennai-Mangalore train ticket was found.

“I don’t know who did what. God will punish those who have done wrong,” Dolphy said.

The possibility of sorcery is also being discussed on social media. At present, the owners are not allowing anyone from outside to see Dooje. They have also decided to install a CCTV camera at the gate.
