Mangaluru: ‘Karavali Utsav’ makes comeback after 2 yrs, expected to be gala event

Mangaluru: The ‘Karavali Utsav’ which was cancelled for the past two years due to Covid-19 pandemic restrictions, is set to make a comeback this year.
This year around, the district administration is also deciding on organizing ‘River Utsav’.
As per the reports, the district administration has decided to organize ‘Karavali Utsav’ from December 23, 2022, to January 1, 2023. In relation to this, the first round of meetings was conducted by the district in-charge minister and the district administration.
However, the blueprint of the event and committees are yet to formulate.
The main stage for the programme and food festival is decided to be arranged at Tannirbhavi Beach. Various events will be held in places like Kadri Park and other venues.
On the other hand, as the centre of attraction, the Horticulture Department has decided to put up a fruits and flower show at Kadri Park. In relation to this, the first round of meetings by the officials has already been conducted.
To develop an awareness of rivers, the district administration has decided to organize the ‘River Festival’ which will include kayaking, windsurfing and many such events. The venue is currently decided to be Kuloor, Bangrakuloor and River Phalguni at Sultan Battery.
Regarding ‘Karavali Utsav’, Mangaluru South legislator D Vedavyas Kamath said, “The event will begin from the end of December, this year. We are also discussing on possibility of organizing the ‘River Festival’. We will finalize the structure of the programme soon. As the event was cancelled for two years due to Covid 19 pandemic, this year we have decided to organize it on a grand scale”.
Meanwhile, the event is expected to boost the income of local vendors and artisans who will be putting up various stalls.
