Mangaluru: Karavali Utsava to be held from December 21 to January 19

Mangaluru: After a few years of hiatus, the Karavali Utsava festival will once again take place in Mangaluru from December 21 to January 19.
On Wednesday, Dakshina Kannada Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan said that the festival will be organized in collaboration with the Karnataka, Tulu, Beary, Konkani, and regional language academies, and it promises to showcase the diverse cultural heritage of the coastal region.
The inaugural ceremony will be held on December 21, with an attractive procession scheduled at 4:00 PM, starting from the Canara College at Kodialbail and moving towards the Karavali Utsava ground.
Artists, dressed in traditional attire representing the district’s culture and diverse customs, will participate in the procession. The main event commences at 5:30 PM, marking the official opening of the Karavali Utsava 2024.
Following the inauguration, cultural performances by renowned artists will take place on December 21 and 22 offering a unique experience for the visitors.
‘Global Village’ themed Exhibition
This year’s exhibition, themed ‘Global Village’, will showcase the authentic culture, traditions, literature, attire, and cuisine of the coastal region. Different sections of the exhibition will highlight the customs of various communities, allowing visitors to explore traditional handicrafts such as pottery, weaving, and other artisanal skills.
Additionally, products from indigenous tribal communities will be available to the public.
Food Festival
The coastal region is known for its unique culinary traditions, and the food festival will offer an array of diverse dishes for visitors to taste and experience. The food stalls will provide a rare opportunity for the public to explore and indulge in traditional Tulu Nadu cuisine.
Commercial Stalls
In addition to food, there will be stalls selling clothing, accessories, and various commercial items at the Karavali Utsava grounds. An amusement park and other fun activities will offer entertainment for all age groups.
Beach Festival
On December 28 and 29, a beach festival will be held at Tannirbhavi Beach. The festival will be inaugurated on Saturday, December 28, at 6:00 PM, followed by dance performances by various groups at 6:30 PM. A special performance by the popular music composer and singer Raghu Dixit and his team will begin at 8:00 PM, offering an enjoyable evening for the public.
On Sunday, December 29, the day will begin with yoga at 5:30 AM, followed by Zumba at 6:30 AM and beach sports from 9:00 AM. following dance performances At 5:30 PM, the evening will conclude with a band performance at 8:00 PM. This event presents a unique opportunity for the youth.
Other Special Events
- Automobile and Dog Shows: On January 4 and 5, automobile and dog exhibitions will take place at Kadri Park.
- Youth Festival: On January 11 and 12, Kadri Park will host the Youth Festival.
- International Kite Festival: On January 18 and 19, the internationally renowned kite festival will be held at Tannirbhavi Beach.
