A man attempting suicide with a young child in his arms was rescued by locals near Gurupura, on the outskirts of the city on Sunday.

The individual, identified as Sandeep (34) from Kandavara Padayipa, was reportedly standing on a bridge with his 2-year-old child, threatening to jump.

Local residents quickly intervened, pleading with him not to take the leap. Sandeep initially warned onlookers not to approach him, but the locals managed to reach him and prevent the tragedy by safely bringing him and the child down from the bridge.

It was reported that Sandeep was distressed due to family disputes, which had driven him to consider suicide. Locals consoled him, offering words of encouragement, and eventually persuaded him to return home. Video footage of the incident has been captured.

Sources indicate that Sandeep’s wife had previously filed a complaint against him at the women’s police station, citing frequent domestic conflicts.
