Mangaluru: Man arrested for stealing gold from railway passenger

Mangaluru: Railway police, on Friday, December 16, arrested a man who allegedly stole gold ornaments from a passenger sleeping on the railway platform here.
The accused has been identified as Kozhikode resident Firoz Padavat (38) son of Moideen.
Firoz had allegedly stolen a gold bracelet and a gold chain from a passenger who was sleeping on the platform. A case in this regard had been filed at the Mangaluru Railway police station. The total weight of the stolen ornaments was 48 grams estimated to be worth Rs 2.37 lakhs, police said.
Mangaluru Railway police said that the accused was apprehended when he arrived at Mangaluru Central Railway police station via the Kannur-Mangaluru MEMU train on Friday.
Both the stolen gold ornaments were recovered from him, police said in a statement.
The accused, meanwhile, has been produced before the court and remanded to judicial custody, the statement added.
