A man accused of swindling money from the Dakshina Kannada and Udupi Fish Sellers’ Federation, has been arrested by the police officials.
The accused has been identified as Manjunatha Kharvi. Manjunatha had purportedly procured fish from the federation but failed to fulfill the payment. Additionally, he neglected to pay the commission owed to the federation arising from the sale of the fish. Further worsening the situation, three cheques issued by Kharvi to the federation allegedly bounced. Subsequently, a legal complaint was lodged pertaining to these events.
In light of these allegations, three separate cases were initiated, resulting in an order from the Fifth JMFC (Junior First Class Magistrate) court of the city instructing Manjunatha to remit a sum of Rs 88 lakhs to the federation. Regrettably, Manjunatha did not comply with this directive, prompting the issuance of an arrest warrant in his name.
On September 20, Kundapur police apprehended Manjunatha at his residence in Uppunda. Following his arrest, he was presented before a magistrate and subsequently remanded to judicial custody.
