Mangaluru: A man was killed in an accident that took place near Kallapu on National Highway 66 on Thursday, October 31.

The deceased has been identified as Adam (63), a resident of Farangipete Rottigudde

The accident took place when Adam was hit by an interlock-laden truck while attempting to board a bus.

The KSRTC bus, traveling from Mangaluru to Mudipu, had broken down at Adankudru. Adam, along with other passengers, alighted from the bus and moved toward a private bus parked ahead. At that moment, a tempo truck approached from behind, striking Adam.

Driver flees the scene:

The driver reportedly lost control, causing the tempo to veer left, first hitting an electric car parked in front of a bakery and then tragically running over Adam. The truck continued, colliding with a large signboard of a bakery and crashing into a storage shop before falling into a ditch. The tempo driver fled the scene following the incident.

Electric car occupants escape unharmed:

Before the tempo struck the bakery, it grazed an electric car parked on the roadside, where a driver had left six passengers, including children, while he went to the bakery. Fortunately, the occupants of the car escaped without injury. Police from Mangaluru South Traffic Station responded to the scene and have registered a case.
