Mangaluru: Man sentenced to life imprisonment for killing his younger brother over land dispute

Mangaluru: A man convicted of murdering his younger brother over a land dispute was sentenced to life imprisonment by the Fourth Additional District and Sessions Court in Mangaluru. Judge Sunitha S.G. delivered the judgment on Friday.

The convicted, identified as Aithappa Naik (45) from Nandarabettu village in Bantwal taluk, had killed his brother, Balappa alias Rama Naik (35), on May 10, 2022. The murder occurred following an argument about sharing land. In a fit of rage, Aithappa struck his brother with a wooden log, resulting in his death.

The prosecution, led by public prosecutor Harishchandra Udyavar, argued the case, presenting key evidence and witnesses. The court examined 17 witnesses. According to the prosecutor the testimonies of Dr. Varsha A. Shetty, who conducted the post-mortem, and Dr. Geetalakshmi from the Forensic Science Laboratory, proved crucial to the case.
