Mangaluru: In a shocking incident, an unidentified man riding a scooter reportedly tried to molest and sexually harass a minor girl today morning at Alankarugudde in Talapady.
Based on the complaint by the victim, Ullal police have launched a search for apprehending the culprit responsible.
The incident occurred when the girl, a student of a school in Kotekar, had taken a shortcut to reach the bus stop near the Talapady checkpost. When the scooter borne man tried to molest and sexually harass, the victim cried for help. But, by the time the locals gathered, the culprit had fled from the spot.
With encouragement from locals, the girl then lodged a complaint with the Ullal Police Station. The police personnel inspected the spot of the crime and collected evidence.
Police are also verifying CCTV footage from the areas around the crime spot.
Locals, meanwhile, alleged that such incidents are on the rise in the area. Many migrant labourers are working in the factories around the area and the owners have not verified their identification documents with the police. No action has been taken even after repeated complaints were raised at the gram panchayat meeting, the villagers lamented.
