Mangaluru: Addressing the issue of land ownership for Mulageni tenants, MLC Ivan D’Souza said that the government is responsible for ensuring justice and will soon raise the issue and hold discussions on the matter in the state legislature.
Speaking at a gathering of Mulageni tenants at Don Bosco Hall on Sunday, D’Souza noted that despite the government’s efforts to enact laws favoring tenants, they have not received justice. The government is considering appointing special public prosecutors to argue on behalf of tenants.
M.K. Yashodha, president of the forum, stated that despite continuous efforts by the Mulageni Okklu Rakshana Vedike, the legal battle continues. In 2023, tenants received a favorable ruling in a single-bench judgment, and now the case is before a division bench.
High Court advocate Nandish Bhushan provided updates on the ongoing legal proceedings. The event also saw participation from the forum’s Secretary Sandesh Prabhu, former President Maxim D’Silva, Udupi President S.S. Shetty, and others. The program was coordinated by Prof. Kokkarné Surendranath Shetty.
