Mangaluru: A multi-sports complex near Urwa Market is set to boost the city’s sporting infrastructure. Built under the Smart City project at a cost of Rs 35 crore, the facility is nearing completion and is expected to be ready in two months.
The complex will feature six shuttle badminton courts, three kabaddi courts, and a seating gallery for 350 spectators. Additional facilities include spacious parking, locker rooms, dining areas, and restrooms.
A 12.5-meter-high playing area with soundproof and temperature-controlled roofing is also part of the design.
The venue is accessible via three roads, and revenue from an attached commercial building will be used for its maintenance.
Once operational, the complex will be used to host national-level tournaments like Pro Kabaddi and Badminton, and provide training facilities for athletes.
According to plans, the U.S. Mallya Indoor Stadium near Lalbagh, currently catering to multiple sports, will likely be dedicated exclusively to basketball to reduce overcrowding.
Raju K., Managing Director of Smart City said “A multi-sports complex is being constructed near Urwa Market in Mangaluru. National-level tournaments like Pro Kabaddi and Shuttle Badminton can now be hosted at this venue. The multi-sports complex is almost complete and will be inaugurated soon.”
