Mangaluru: The Dakshina Kannada district administration is considering keeping the city’s beaches open to the public during nighttime.
To ensure the safety of tourists, preparations are underway to provide necessary facilities like lifeguards and streetlights on the beaches. The Panambur Beach is set to be the first to implement this initiative, with essential infrastructure work currently in progress. At Tannirbhavi Beach, work is ongoing in line with the requirements for Blue Flag certification.
The district administration plans to keep the beaches open to visitors until 1 a.m., Deputy Commissioner Mullai Muhilan said.
However, the decision to permit nighttime access will be implemented only after ensuring adequate safety measures and facilities. Mangaluru Police Commissioner Anupam Agrawal clarified that pubs, bars, and restaurants would not be permitted to operate until 1 a.m. for now.
